Getting there

The best and almost only comfortable way is by airplane.

You can fly in from Santiago for 300 $ - 1.200 $ round-trip with LAN Airlines all year-round or with LAN Perú from Lima (the latter is a seasonal flight). Average price of a round-trip ticket is rather around 1.000 $.

Opodo promises cheap flights, if you are from the UK. They scan over 500 airlines for fares, of course, in this case they can only show the few operating carriers to Rapa Nui, but prices might be lower than booking directly from the airline (agencies soemtimes sell cheaper than the airlines themselves).

Another choice for Easter Island flights is available from eDreams, which lists a number of possible routes, not only from South America. You might find airfares as low as 500 $, if you're lucky.

Then, the only places to stay at are located in the town, Hanga Roa.

Mataveri International Airport

This runway was initially intended for NASA's space shuttle missions. In case something failed, they needed an air strip long enough to long in this part of the World too. And Easter Island was the best place to build it on.

The runway is 3.318 m long, which is considered long, this could be a major international airport.

Scheduled flights to mainland Chile are operated since 1967. You can fly to Rapa Nui and back least once a week. Thanks to this airport, tourism was boosted on the island.

Staying in Hanga Roa town

You should have about 50-75 $ for night, but it is possible to find cheaper 25-30 $/night accommodation, especially for backpackers this is a good opportunity.

Make sure you visit the nearby attractions when in the town. there are moai even inside Hanga Roa.

Visiting the Island, getting around

There are a series of companies offering trips to arriving tourists, but it's better to book ahead online or in Santiago.
