A northeastern beach on Easter Island. It is said that Hotu Matu'a and his settlers first touched the shores of Rapa Nui on this beach. Anakena is a popular destination on Easter Island. You can swim, sunbath and admire the nearby moai. There are several palm trees on the beach, so you will get a taste of a typical Pacific island. The palms, however were planted, brought here. In the past there was a time when all trees were cut down on Rapa Nui and the population remained stranded. As a result, a major revolt has erupted and part of the Anakena can be a romantic location if you are looking for such a place... Nearby there are 2 moai sites: Ahu Nau Nau and Ahu Ature Huke. Ahu Nau Nau constitutes the major attraction, because it is a complex of 7 statues (more or less intact), while the latter site consists of a single statue. Location on the map
